Royal Primary Care’s Brooklyn GP surgery (Heanor) has been awarded a ‘Good’ rating from the Care Quality Commission following an inspection in early April.
The CQC published their report from the inspection on Tuesday, 13 May.
As defined by the CQC’s website, the Good rating from the report means that the practice is performing well and meeting expectations.
It was the first inspection of RPC Brooklyn, formerly Brooklyn Medical Practice, since it came under the management of Royal Primary Care in 2022. It was previously inspected in 2016, when it was also rated as Good.
RPC’s Managing Director, Nathaniel Webber, said: “We were incredibly pleased to see that in the feedback from the CQC inspectors as well as patients and partner groups, our colleagues received considerable praise for their professionalism and dedication to providing the best possible service.
“We felt the efforts of our colleagues were thoroughly deserving of this rating, and there were many examples of our dedication to going above and beyond what is required of us.”
RPC is a GP provider formed by and operated as a division of Chesterfield Royal Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. The Brooklyn surgery is based in Heanor and is the newest addition to Royal Primary Care’s network of nine GP practices in Derbyshire – the rest covering Chesterfield, Staveley, Clay Cross and Grassmoor.
Prior to a physical inspection of the surgery on 8 April, the CQC conducted remote interviews with members of administrative and clinical staff, as well as patients from the Patient Participation Group and community partners.
CQC ratings are determined by assessing five criteria: Safe, Effective, Caring, Responsive, and Well-led. A service can be rated as Outstanding, Good, Requires Improvement or Inadequate, with each criterion given its own rating as a percentage.
To be awarded an overall Outstanding rating, a practice must be rated Outstanding in at least two key areas, while the remainder are rated at least Good.
In all five key criteria, RPC Brooklyn was rated ‘Good’.
The Trust's Chief Operating Officer, Michelle Veitch, said: “We are very pleased to see that RPC Brooklyn is performing well as part of our Trust group. The positive feedback we have heard from inspectors, patients and community partners is extremely encouraging and highlights how our people make patient experience an absolute priority.
“The report not only reflects on the Brooklyn practice, but on the whole of RPC as a multi-practice organisation under Chesterfield Royal Hospital NHS Trust, showcasing the benefits of our collaborative approach to primary care as well as the CARE values we aim to uphold. On behalf of the whole Trust Board, I would like to thank all our colleagues for their hard work in delivering this fantastic outcome.
“We understand that there is still more work to be done. We will take on board the feedback we have received and we look forward to working with colleagues to improve patient experience at Royal Primary Care.”
